Peckham engagement shoot (featuring: Storm Doris)

23/04/2017

One of the best things about doing what I do is getting to know awesome new people. I’ve always said that you get much better photos of people when you know them that much more, so that’s why I spend as much time as I do getting to know the couples I work with. This is why I’m such a big fan of engagement shoots; they’re free if you’ve booked me for a wedding because they’re the perfect chance for us all to get to know one another before the big day.

One very happy, recently engaged couple!

One such awesome couple is Emily and Jimmy! Do you remember ‘Storm Doris’? On the day that Doris was doing her thing this February, I met up with these guys in Peckham for a trip to the pub and then onto an engagement shoot nearby. As we sat in the relative calm of the bar, the (unusually-named) Doris was really going for it outside. It was going to be a windy shoot, so we layered-up and headed outside into the wilds of South London…

Peckham is a very far cry from where these guys got engaged: none other than Yosemite National Park in the states. On top of a mountain, no less! Their wedding is taking place this July in Surrey, surrounded by fields, lakes and a tipi or two. It promises to be an absolutely incredible day. (There’ll also be a strict ban on any ‘S. Doris’ attempting to enter, as well.)

Doris: defeated.

Another reason engagement shoots are so great is that these guys have now been able to use their photos to put together their (extremely snazzy) wedding website. I do love it when a plan comes together.

Are you recently engaged? Thinking about photography for your wedding? I’d love to hear from you. I’d be very happy to discuss how we can do an engagement shoot like this in the near future! (Storm optional.)
